I’ve had a few old tree huang pian similar to this. First steep is fruity, sweet and full. There is a sour/metallic note coming through from the second steep forward when these teas are fresh, but in my limited experience so far it subsides within 1-2 years. I found the sourness of this tea rather enjoyable. There is a general bitterness and aftertaste lingering in the mouth. Leaves are spent about as fast as you would expect from a huang pian. Wet leaves have a nice and strong menthol note, feeling it in my breath as well. This tea is nice to drink now but I would probably stash it away for a few years. Enjoyable session!

//Smell : sweetened strawberries X apple compote, concentrated juice mix, very mineral
//Texture: medium texture, hot and cold liquor at the same time (menthol?), front teeth coating
//Taste : Gentle astringency, diluted orange juice, refreshing, fruity
//Body sensation: Lazy body, thick saliva, heat production
I think I didn’t quite get the full potential of this tea. Maybe I’ll be more convinced when cold brewed?

I’m glad I told myself not to expect fancy quality tea when choosing to buy a huangpian. With minimal complexity, to me, this tea tastes floral, vegetal, somewhat rough, metallic, menthol-like, and slightly bitter, with sugary notes and the overall taste losing quite fast at the beginning, especially when brewed in a Jianshui zitao vessel. I found that Yixing duanni vessel would stabilise and prolong the enjoyment of the tea session, though, as well as the thought that while doing so, you are also helping to care for disadvantaged children and disappearing traditional arts.
